We were just off a much-delayed plane from New York and desperate for a laydown when who should appear at our car door but Andrew, the best-ever host two Yanks could hope for. Our bags disappeared, tea and cake appeared, dinner reservations at a to-die-for restaurant (The Hungry Monk)were made, and conversation ensued that drained the ague from our bones and loosened a second wind we didn't know was in us. When our guest arrived a bit later, she was given the 4**** treatment as well. I'll tell you something he won't brag about...Unknowingly, I'd sat in chocolate on the seat of my car. He insisted on taking the unwearable slacks for washing and pressing. 'Magin that! The house is nestled in a lovely spot overlooking the brilliant white cliffs. Our room was heartbreakingly beautiful with sunshine and grassy-green, velvety views to the water. The mood of the place envelops you and brushes away everything you've left behind for the week. THEN, when you think you're over the top, they invite you for breakfast into a kitchen one has only seen in glossy magazines. What a treat. They were standing in the door, waving goodbye as we turned to go. Was it    love? I don't think so. But, it sure felt like it. Outstanding. Well done that couple!

" You have restored our faith in English B&B, we would love to return!"   Hampshire

Chyngton is a really beautiful old house and as most of us don't live in a beautiful old house it's always a pleasure to stay in one, just as it is to sleep in an elegant and airy bedroom. And, after a journey, it's very nice indeed not to have to get in the car but to be able to walk from the door out onto the downs or along to an unspoiled beach with stupendous views of the white cliffs.

But what you'll really remember from your stay is the warmth and helpfulness of the couple who run it.  From the moment your tyres crunch on the gravel and the front door is flung open with a welcome (we got tea and homemade cakes as well) to the time you drive away wishing you could have stayed just another day or two, nothing is too much trouble.  Maps were provided for our walks, local knowledge told us where best to park in busy towns and where best to eat, and expert help made it possible for us to check in for a flight online which saved time and trouble later.

But again, this kind of list misses the real point. What is so delightful is just to sit in the kitchen over breakfast and have a chat and a laugh with people you enjoy having a chat and a laugh with; or, when you come in, to have someone listen with real interest to what you've been up to that day.  It's very special, all of it.  If they have room for you when you get in touch to book, then, like us, you just got lucky.
